Birth Trauma

Children's health issues image.

Consider this…you spend nine months in a perfect environment designed especially for you, feeling safe, secure and loved. Then, you’re squeezed out through a narrow opening into a cold, noisy, brightly lit room.

No wonder you cry!

Most women give birth lying down, rather than squatting, a position that could use the force of gravity to assist in the birthing process. Drugs used to manage pain during the birth process may hinder the mother’s ability to push. Deliveries using mechanical intervention, such as forceps or vacuum extraction, may cause a newborn’s first vertebral subluxation. The pulling and twisting can create an overlooked injury to the spine. The resulting nerve compromise can disrupt normal communication between the brain and body.

Left undetected, vertebral subluxation may significantly affect the newborn’s ability to adapt to his or her environment, increasing an infant’s susceptibility to infection and illness. Dr. Abraham Towbin, a prominent medical researcher on spinal injury, stated, “The birth process, even under optimal, controlled conditions is a traumatic, potentially crippling event for the fetus.”

Consider the possible effects:
  • Colic and irritability
  • Digestive problems
  • Breathing disorders
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Failure to thrive
  • Learning disorders

Dr. Steve Asks some important questions of interest to Buffalo residents - Chiropractor Buffalo Dr. Steve Asks...

Why are frequent visits advised when starting chiropractic care?
Consistent visits at the beginning of your chiropractic care help create the momentum necessary to correct and retrain unhealthy spinal patterns. Later, Buffalo patients find that continued care on a less frequent visit schedule can help preserve their progress and avoid a relapse.
Is a muscle spasm a cause or an effect?
With the knee-jerk use of muscle relaxers, you'd think it was a cause. But it's an effect. Chiropractors know that bones don't move unless muscles move them. And muscles don't contract unless commanded by the nervous system. That's why your nervous system is the focus of our Buffalo chiropractic practice.
